Suman Talwar, also known as Suman, was born on August 28, 1959, in Madras to Mr. Sushil Suvarna and Mrs. Kesari Talwar. Mrs. Talwar worked as a principal in Ethiraj College and Mr. Suvarna worked as a General Manager for Indian Oil Corporation in Madras. Growing up, he attended Church Park Convent, St. Aloysius in Mangalore, Kalakshetra, and Rama Krishna High School. Despite pursuing a BA at Pachyappas, he began his film career in Tamil as a hero in 1977. His first film, titled ‘Swimming Pool,’ was the beginning of a journey that would lead him to venture into Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bhojpuri, Hindi, Marathi, and Oriya films.

He had made his mark in Hollywood, featuring in an English film called ‘Death in Taxis’ in Chicago in 1998.

Suman’s acting career has spanned over 800 films and several of his movies had been successfully displayed for more than 100 days.

A few examples of Dr. Suman Talwar’s dedication towards the acting industry is:
He happened to learn the precious art of Kalaripayattu under Mr. Gopal Gurukkal for the Tamil Film “Erumbu Karangal”. On top of that he fought with a tiger with bare hands for the Telugu Film “Chandi Rani”.

His notable performances are in ‘Bava Bava Maridi,’ for which he received the ‘Best Hero award’ in Telugu in 1994, and in ‘Sivaji- The Boss,’ for which he was awarded with the ‘Best Villain Award’ in Tamil.

He was felicitated by the then President of India, Shanker Dayal Sharma, for his portrayal of Lord Tirupati Balaji. Devotional Characters portrayed by him like Lord Rama in “Sree Rama Dasu” and the Seven Roles played in the film “Sri Satya Narayana Swamy” are fondly remembered.

He has completed 45 years in the film industry and is still continuing to be a predominant part of it.

Aside from acting, Dr. Suman is also an accomplished martial artist. He began learning karate at the age of 11 and is now an 8th Dan black belt, actively practicing it to this day.

He’s also served as chairman for various martial arts associations in India, where he taught many women martial arts and unarmed combat.

He’s even received three honorary doctorates, including one in martial arts. Currently, he’s learning Judo under Grandmaster Rajagopal in Chennai.

Suman also has a keen interest in politics, having been a part of the Telugu Desam Party(TDP) under former CM Chandrababu Naidu for some time. Today, he continues to act in films across various languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Oriya, and Malayalam. He recently received the Global Cultural Ambassador award in Tokat, Turkey.
